Our first season
Challenges, opportunities, and our recommendations for change.
This work brings together four interconnected reports to better understand how local economies shape everyday life in Norlane and Corio.
Combining economic mapping, engagement with regional institutions, and lived experience from residents, it reveals a consistent pattern: while the broader economy grows, the pathways for local participation remain limited.
By grounding analysis in place, the work identifies where real economic opportunities exist and what it will take to ensure they are accessible, locally captured, and capable of building long-term community wealth.
‘A Postcode, Not a Destiny’ is our introductory report for this season of work and represents a high level summary of our analysis to date. The following three reports provide the in-depth data, community insights and recommendations in more detail.

A Postcode, not a Destiny.
Long-term economic wellbeing is not only about employment. It is also about ownership of businesses, assets and productive activity, and whether the value created in a place stays there or flows elsewhere.
This report represents three interconnected pieces of work that helps us better understand where value is created, how it is shared and who benefits.
It brings together an analysis of the state of the Norlane and Corio economies and their intersection with the broader Geelong region economy, engagement with major regional institutions and businesses, and a series of kitchen table conversations listening to residents of Norlane and Corio. Each perspective provides different dimensions of the same place. This report brings those perspectives together to establish a shared understanding of how postcode 3214 sits within the broader Geelong economy.
